Hundreds of flights delayed at DIA amid FAA-issued ground delay

More than 200 flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed on Thursday after the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay.

As of 8:50 a.m. Thursday, 232 flights had been delayed and one had been canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.

The FAA issued a DIA ground delay at 8 a.m. for “low ceilings,” which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover. The ground delay is scheduled through 1 p.m. Thursday but could be extended.

Flights headed into DIA were being delayed an average of 36 minutes, according to FAA officials. Those delays caused other flights headed out of DIA to leave the gate late.

Southwest delayed 121 flights and canceled one, United delayed 52 flights, SkyWest delayed 31 flights, Delta delayed seven flights and American Airlines delayed seven flights.

Alaska Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue,Copa Airlines, Icelandair and Key Lime Air all delayed between one and five flights at DIA on Thursday.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
