ICE releases immigration activist Jeanette Vizguerra from detention
Nine months after she first entered an Aurora detention center, Jeanette Vizguerra walked out of the facility and “into the loving arms of her family” Monday afternoon, her supporters said.

Vizguerra’s family posted $5,000 bail for the detained immigrant rights activist following a Sunday order by an immigration judge that opened the door to Vizguerra’s temporary release. She was released without monitoring after the judge found she posed no flight risk or danger to the community.
“I am thankful that they never gave up, remaining committed even when the outcome seemed dark,” Vizguerra said of her legal team in a statement that was included in a news release. “They understand that this case is bigger than me. This fight is about the constitutional rights we all share, human rights and dignity for all people.”
Vizguerra is set to speak at a federal courthouse in downtown Denver on Tuesday.
A nationally known activist, Vizguerra, who was born in Mexico, has been in the U.S. for most of the last 28 years and spent parts of President Donald Trump’s first administration sheltering in a Denver church. She was granted several reprieves under the Biden administration but was arrested at her workplace in March.
