Icy weather west of Denver is causing havoc on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel, as westbound lanes were fully closed early Monday morning due to several crashes along the heavily traveled thoroughfare.
To make matters worse, a semi trailer was blocking both directions of U.S. 6 on Loveland Pass, which acts as a detour around the tunnel, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office announced. The crash was cleared around 7:10 a.m.
At 7:10 a.m., the agency said that all lanes of westbound I-70 had been reopened near the tunnel but that the going was slow, with a 3-mile-long backup in the area. The sheriff’s office said there had been several crashes west of Georgetown due to slick conditions.
Meanwhile, a single vehicle rollover crash closed the northbound off ramp to Auraria Parkway in Denver early Monday morning. The Denver Police Department announced a crash around 4:15 a.m. at the Auraria Parkway off-ramp from I-25, which resulted in an oil spill. The department said there were no serious injuries from the crash.
