The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an inmate died Tuesday afternoon from unknown causes, according to the agency.
The inmate, an unidentified 32-year-old woman who had been in jail for just over a day, was found unresponsive in her cell Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies and medical staff at the jail started life-saving measures that were continued by paramedics with the Pueblo Fire Department and American Medical Response, sheriff’s officials said.
The woman had a weak heartbeat when she left the jail but died at the hospital from unknown causes, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will identify the woman and determine her cause of death.
Sheriff’s officials said there were “no signs of foul play.”
