Investigators arrest SF Apple Store fraud suspect

Marin County investigators arrested a suspect in a fraud investigation involving dozens of Apple products.

The investigation began on Aug. 27, when a Kentfield resident told authorities that someone had used her credit card to make a purchase at the Apple Store in San Francisco. Detectives obtained video footage of the potential suspect picking up the merchandise, according to Lt. Brennan Collins of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Collins said a detective at another agency recognized the buyer from video footage in a different fraud investigation. Investigators identified the suspect as Aisuluu Mursalieva, 27, of Hayward.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Mursalieva’s residence on Wednesday.

“Inside the residence, detectives located approximately 50 unopened Apple products, 50 counterfeit ID cards, a laminator and a color scanner,” Collins said. “There were also multiple other unopened electronic devices of various brands. Detectives are investigating where the electronics were purchased from and working to see if there are any additional victims of identity theft.”

Mursalieva was booked into the Marin County Jail on fraud and theft allegations. The bail amount was set at $25,000, and she has been released pending further review by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.

Mursalieva could not be reached for comment Thursday.
