What could be one of the UK’s most ‘dangerous’ crossroads is undergoing a facelift after 13 crashes were caught on camera in six weeks.

CCTV footage captured cars flipping over and lorries ploughing into vehicles as they ignored give-way signs.

Draycott Cross Road junction in Cheadle, Staffordshire, has caused around £200,000 worth of damage, with residents fearing the next crash could be fatal.

Following a public appeal, Staffordshire County Council has agreed to spend £25,000 on a raft of road safety improvements.

The old give-way sign will be replaced with a permanent stop sign, and the faded road markings will be re-painted.

The Reform councillor said the main issue was eroded road markings.

Ring doorbell footage from Cllr Bentley’s home captured 13 crashes between August and October last year.

One video shows a car failing to spot the give way road markings and speeding over the lines before being smashed into by a lorry.

Another clip shows an SUV being clipped by a VW Golf, which flips over and rolls across the road.

In a bid to urge the council to act, pub landlord Conor Bernard even kept a tally of crashes on a board he put on the path outside.

Conor, 56, said: ‘You’d hear a big bang and you’d come running out and there’s a car on its roof again. I just thought it was just a question of time before someone gets killed out there.

‘There has been a lot of activity locally to do something about it, and the council have listened. It looks like they are doing everything that needs to be done, but time will tell.’

As well as a new stop sign, potholes on the road are being filled in to stop motorists swerving as they approach the junction.

The speed limit leading up to the junction on the A521 is also being reduced to 40mph before the 30mph zone at the crossroads.
