Jewel Osco stores in multiple states, including Illinois, are recalling select items containing tuna salad due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The action follows a recall put in place by Reser’s Fine Food, the supplier of the tuna salad, due to possible contamination in bread crumbs used in the tuna salad, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and possibly fatal infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.
Healthy individuals can suffer high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea from a Listeria infection, and it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, the FDA stated in a news release.
Anyone who purchased the recalled items is encouraged to throw them away or return them to their local store to receive a full refund.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported due to the recalled food, the FDA said.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to Albertsons Companies’ customer service center at 877-723-3929.
