Jon Cryer spoke out about his relationship with “Pretty in Pink” co-star Andrew McCarthy, in an interview on Friday, saying their early meeting was not a positive one.

“When we made ‘Pretty in Pink,’ we didn’t get along because he was a d—,” People Magazine quoted the 59-year-old actor during a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

“That’s very true,” acknowledged McCarthy, who was also in attendance. The two were at Tribeca promoting McCarthy’s documentary, “BRATS,” which explores the lives of the actors labeled the “Brat Pack” in a 1985 New York Magazine article.

The group of young Hollywood stars, including Cryer and McCarthy, rose to fame in the 1980s through their coming-of-age films.

Demi Moore, who starred opposite McCarthy in “St. Elmo’s Fire,” also spoke during the Q&A and disagreed with Cryer’s assessment, according to the magazine article. “Well I didn’t think he was a d—,” the “Ghost” actress said, and Cryer shot back: “Well he wasn’t a d— to you.”

Cryer and McCarthy would eventually reconcile in 2012 in the greenroom of “The View,” they said, discussing the moment during the BRATS premiere.

McCarthy confirmed that he apologized to his former co-star. “A little,” added Cryer. “But it was lovely because it was like within a moment, it was just so clear that we were teenagers and that does not, that in no way defines who we are now, and it was just so lovely. It was immediately warm,” he said.
