Jon Lester honors Ryne Sandberg in appearance at Wrigley Field

A pitcher who helped the Red Sox win two World Series titles made an appearance at Wrigley Field on Friday.

So did a pitcher from the Cubs’ 2016 championship team.

In other words, Jon Lester was in the stands to watch his old teams face each other in MLB’s first game after the All-Star break. The Cubs won 4-1.

Lester wore a throwback Ryne Sandberg jersey, honoring the Cubs Hall of Famer who gave an update this week on his battle with prostate cancer. In 2006, Lester was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, during his rookie season in Boston. He returned the following year after undergoing chemotherapy.
