Kayne Miller leads Calabasas football in rout of Castaic

VALENCIA — “I would say just being able to read our gaps and just trust my (offensive) linemen, because they’re always gonna make a hole for me.”

That’s what Calabasas senior running back Kayne Miller said after he had four total touchdowns and over 200 all-purpose yards in the Coyotes’ 47-6 win over Castaic on Thursday night.

It was a dominant showing from the start for an upstart Calabasas team, as they led 14-0 early in the second quarter after a pair of Miller touchdown runs.

On the defensive side, they were able to hold Castaic in check and keep them from threatening the end zone until late in the second quarter, when quarterback Adian Mojica took a quarterback keeper into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown.

Calabasas led 27-6 at halftime, and they were able to extend their lead to an insurmountable 34-6 margin after Miller returned the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter 87 yards for a touchdown.

It turned into another showcase game of sorts for the senior back – after he ran for 187 yards and a touchdown in Calabasas’ season-opening win over Bishop Alemany last week – and it continued a strong showing for a Coyotes team that’s building chemistry in 2025.

“It’s a strong start. We gotta build off of it,” said Miller, “… and just build a brotherhood because I know we have a lot of new players, a lot of new teammates, a lot of freshmen, a lot of people that came in from other schools, so just get stronger together… it’s a lot of components.”

For his part, Miller sees a lot of positives in Calabasas’ 2-0 start.

“The proof is in the progress,” he said.

It has been a difficult start to the season for a limited Castaic side. They had 24 available players in Thursday’s loss, and they fell to 0-2 after tonight’s defeat and an opening loss to Adelanto.

With that said, sophomore receiver Logan Siebrand-Wissinger was a standout for Castaic as he had over 100 yards receiving and proved to be a big-play threat for senior quarterback Mojica.

It’s the opposite end of the spectrum for Calabasas, who will look to continue the momentum of their strong start to the season, and if Miller and junior quarterback Dominik Hardy – who threw two touchdowns in the victory – keep their standout seasons going, it could be a successful season for a solid Coyotes team.

One key goal in mind for Miller is simple: “Just bring it all together.”

Calabasas enters their bye week next week before going on the road to play Agoura on September 12.

Castaic’s next game will be a road contest at San Joaquin Memorial on September 5.
