The Kennedy Expressway’s reversible express lanes reopened Monday in time for morning rush hour after nearly a year of construction.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said Sunday the lanes would be open by 5 a.m., weather permitting. As of 7 a.m., they were indeed open and available to traffic.
Chicago is tied with New York City for the second-worst traffic in the world, according to a study from Inrix, which studies transportation and traffic. Traffic also got worse in the city over the last year as the Kennedy was under construction, the study determined.
