A quick-moving wildfire in Gorman has seared about 400 acres, at one point closing the 5 Freeway, with only 5%containment, fire authorities said.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the 45100 block of Copco Avenue, east of the 5 and south of Highway 138 near Pyramid Lake.
Firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Angeles National Forest and Kern County were battling the flames.
Wind gusts at times have hit up to 30 miles an hour. Intense flames leaped in the air not far from the 5.
By 3 a.m., the fire had exceeded 200 acres as it chewed through brush and surrounded an RV park, destroying a double-wide trailer, two vehicles and two outhouses.
KABC 7 reported the freeway re-opened around 4 a.m.
An evacuation warning was issued for the Paradise RV Park. Residents of the Pyramid Lake RV Park were advised to shelter in place, the Angeles National Forest reported.
