The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the creation of a Labor Council to assist contracted homelessness service providers.
The Labor Council will be funded by Measure A, approved by voters in 2024, which is a funding source for the county’s homelessness efforts, and includes a provision on improving recruitment and retention of social service providers.
Tuesday’s motion by Supervisor Lindsey Horvath directs the Executive Office and Chief Executive Office Homeless Initiative to establish the eight-member council by June 30. The council will be composed of local nonprofit leaders and academicians to recommend compensation for social service workers and strategies to increase hiring and retention.
The motion also directs the council to coordinate with all relevant county departments, including the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.
Additionally, the board directed the council to provide feedback on the proposed homelessness budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
