LA Daily News top 10 football rankings for Week 9

Westlake and Chaminade brought home impressive wins in Week 8. The Warriors beat Newbury Park in double overtime and the Eagles overcame a double-digit deficit to win a much-need Mission League tilt.

Also, Birmingham Charter — an Open Division favorite in the City Section — joins the fold.

DAILY NEWS TOP 10 RANKINGS, OCT. 20

1. Sierra Canyon (8-0): The Trailblazers continue their dominance in a 45-10 rout of Notre Dame. QB Laird Finkel tossed for 329 yards and three TDs. Jerod Terry ran for 241 yards and two scores. | at Bishop Amat

2. Valencia (7-1): Vikings have won five straight, including last week’s 35-7 victory over Golden Valley, which makes them 4-0 in the Foothill League. | vs. Hart

3. Westlake (8-0): The Warriors beat Newbury Park 29-23 in double overtime thanks to QB Ford Green, RB Demanie Bell and WR Niles Davis — all of which had monster games. Westlake is in the driver’s seat for a Conejo Coast League title. | at Santa Barbara

4. Chaminade (4-4): The Eagles were trailing 27-17 before storming back for a 37-27 win over Gardena Serra. Ronnell Hewitt ran for three touchdowns. | vs. Loyola

5. Notre Dame (4-4): The Knights have dropped two straight and are 1-2 in the Mission League with a hungry Gardena Serra and upward-trending Chaminade still left on the schedule. | at Serra

6. Agoura (6-2): QB Gavin Gray continues to fill the stat sheet from under center. On Friday, he threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-14 win over Fillmore. He’s up to 32 TD passes this season. | at San Marcos

7. Hart (7-2): More Jacob Paisano, more victories for Hart; beating Canyon 42-6. Paisano threw for 164 yards and two TDs while adding 154 yards rushing and three more scores on the ground. | at Valencia

8. Newbury Park (5-3): Newbury Park felt what life was like without Brady Smigiel in a loss to Westlake in double overtime. The Panthers weren’t able to score a touchdown through the air for the first time in years. | at Thousand Oaks

9. Paraclete (6-2): The Spirits only two losses this season are to Valencia and Cathedral. Look for Paraclete to finish second in the Angelus League. | vs. St. Francis

10. Birmingham Charter (5-3): The Patriots are starting to look like a top contender in the LA City Section for the Open Division title (yet again). Birmingham will likely face Carson in late November for that crown. | at Granada Hills Charter
