Labour can’t solve housing crisis without also getting a grip on our borders

A Grey area

LABOUR’S plan to turbo-charge house building from day one is badly needed.

Sir Keir Starmer says his idea to turn one per cent of Green Belt land into so-called “Grey Belt” for construction could be enough for 738,000 new homes.

That sounds like a lot.

But net migration running at over 745,000 a YEAR spells out the scale of the housing crisis.

And as Labour doesn’t appear to have a proper immigration policy, beyond vague promises to bring it down, it can’t hope to solve the chronic shortage.

Handing an effective amnesty to tens of thousands of illegal migrants also won’t help.

You can’t solve the housing shortage without also getting a grip on our borders.

Grim at Glasto

WHAT point was multi-millionaire street artist Banksy making with his migrant dinghy stunt?

And what was in the minds of those in the Glastonbury crowd as they gleefully bounced it back and forth like a toy?

It can’t be to raise awareness of a serious issue which in recent days has finally become front and centre of the General Election campaign.

So was it just a joke?

The trade in death and misery that is illegal migration isn’t a subject for glib virtue signalling.

As for the sea of Palestinian flags waved in front of performers on the main Pyramid stage:

Have they forgotten the unspeakable atrocities Hamas committed at a music festival inside Israel on October 7?

Jack it in, Jill

IT is astonishing that Jill Biden holds the future safety and security of America and its allies in her hands.

Somehow, it appears only the unelected First Lady can persuade her husband Joe that his mental frailties mean he must step down as President.

It is impossible for a man who is only vaguely in charge of his faculties between the hours of 9am and 4pm to be leader of the free world.

Over to you, Jill.

Thanks, Jude

ANYONE expecting a Sunday stroll in the park for Gareth Southgate’s men should have known it wouldn’t be easy.

With England, it never is.

Desperate fans will have wondered who would provide that moment of magic against Slovakia to save us from another rage-inducing tournament exit.

But as Jude Bellingham roared to the crowd after his brilliant overhead kick, they’d have realised: “Who else?”

Now get ready for another nerve- shredding quarter-final on Saturday.

It’s what we do.
