LAFC keeps goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with 1-year extension

Arguably the best bang-for-your-buck signing in Los Angeles Football Club history will continue to represent the Black & Gold in 2026.

Iconic French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, a World Cup winner in 2018, agreed to a one-year contract extension with a club option for 2027, LAFC announced Thursday.

“From the start, I recognized the ambition of this club and the strong culture among players, staff, and supporters,” Lloris said in a statement. “I came here to compete, to keep playing at a high level and help this club fight for titles – and this environment is the right fit for me at this stage of my career. I appreciate the trust LAFC has shown in me, and my family and I have settled well in Los Angeles. I look forward to the season ahead and to continuing to give my best for the club.”

Lloris, who turns 39 on Dec. 26, initially joined LAFC two years ago following more than a decade with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

Salaried in the range of an average MLS goalkeeper at $350,000 during his first season with LAFC, Lloris immediately entrenched himself as a team leader. His guaranteed compensation bumped up to $700,000 in 2025, making him the 12th-highest paid goalkeeper in the league, according to figures compiled by the MLS players association.

Terms for the one-year extension were not announced.

“Hugo has been an incredible leader and standard-bearer for our team since the day he arrived,” LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington said. “We’re thrilled to have reached an agreement for him to remain with the club.”

Compiling more than 8,000 minutes and 33 clean sheets since his arrival, Lloris appeared in 91 of LAFC’s 100 matches across all competitions the past two years, including a pair of finals in 2024 – winning the U.S. Open Cup and finishing runner-up in the Leagues Cup.

The Nice, France, native closed the 2025 league campaign with a dozen clean sheets, making Lloris one of two MLS goalkeepers to appear in 10 or more games without conceding a goal the past two seasons.

This year, Lloris became LAFC’s all-time leader in MLS regular-season wins, shutouts and games played in goal. He served as team captain for the second half of 2025 after Aaron Long went down with a season-ending injury.

“Hugo is a person of exceptional character and quality, on and off the field, and he continues to set the tone in our locker room with his experience, professionalism, and winning mentality,” Thorrington said. “His presence is invaluable as we push for even greater success.”
