At 4:21 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service released a lake wind advisory valid from Thursday 4 p.m. until Saturday Dec. 20, at 4 a.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

The NWS Reno NV adds to expect, “For Lake Tahoe, southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph Thursday evening, increasing Friday to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Waves 1 to 4 feet.”

“Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve,” the NWS said. “Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights.
