Two Los Angeles Police Department officers were wounded during a shootout in South Los Angeles Wednesday night and police were searching for the person involved.
The officers were injured after they confronted and exchanged gunfire with someone in the area of 135th Street and South Broadway near an unincorporated area near Willowbrook at around 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, the LAPD said.
Fox 11 reported the person opened fire on the officers, possibly with a rifle, during the traffic stop with one officer suffering head grazing. The second officer suffered minor cuts from shattered glass.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the officers to a hospital for treatment and both are in stable condition, police said.
It was not immediately known if the person was wounded during the shooting or why the officers confronted them.
