A large brush fire burning near Interstate 70 in Garfield County closed the highway in both directions Friday night, state and local officials said.
Eastbound and westbound I-70 are closed between exit 90 for Rifle and exit 75 for Parachute, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. U.S. 6 is also closed because of the fire.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations for the Rulison area just before 6:30 p.m., which is halfway between Rifle and Parachute.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
