Larimer County wildfire triggers evacuations in Crystal Lakes area

Authorities in Larimer County on Monday issued mandatory evacuation orders due to a wildfire in the Crystal Lakes area in the foothills west of Fort Collins.

The wildfire has been named the Pearl fire, Larimer County sheriff’s officials said.

The initially evacuation order issued at 11:55 a.m. covered Crystal Lakes, south of Black Mountain and north of Lake Erie, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office announced on social media.

At 12:45 p.m., officials extended the evacuation order to include residents in the area of county roads 86 and 170.

A second, voluntary evacuation order was issued for residents north of Black Mountain to the Wyoming state line, with people instructed to “GATHER ESSENTIAL ITEMS AND PREPARE FOR EVACUATION.”

Additionally, Larimer County officials say residents in the area of Lake Erie and Mitchell Ditch should be prepared to evacuate, too.

Residents can text LCEVAC to 888777 for updates or go to nocoalert.org for a map of the evacuation zone.
