Colorado put together its best start of the season, but the Buffaloes’ defense took a step backward.
Still, it wasn’t enough of a step backward to prevent CU from remaining undefeated.
The CU men’s basketball team answered a strong challenge from UC Davis with a late surge, pulling away from the visiting Aggies for a 95-79 victory Friday night at the CU Events Center.
The Buffs improved to 5-0 going into the first road trip of the season at the two-game Acrisure Holiday Classic, which begins against San Francisco on Thanksgiving.
CU jumped to a 10-0 lead out of the gate and led by 13 points late in the first half before the Aggies gradually chipped away at the deficit. UC Davis took its first lead at 58-57 and led 63-59 with 10 minutes, 21 seconds remaining before the Buffs scored 10 straight points in what turned into a 14-2 run that gave CU the lead for good.
It once again was a balanced attack for the Buffs, who had five players score in double figures. Bangot Dak went 8-for-10 with a team-high 18 points, while point guard Barrington Hargress enjoyed a solid all-around game with 13 points and nine assists. CU guard Felix Kossaras scored a career-high 17 points.
