Latest Glastonbury weather forecast warns of ‘spells of rain’ and ‘sunny intervals’

You’d better get your wellies on for Glastonbury as the wet start to the summer is expected to continue into July, with light rain expected alongside brief sunny intervals.

Rain almost spelt disaster for Mighty Hoopla earlier this month as wet weather turned Brixton’s Brockwell Park into a ‘mud bath’.

But the London festival was saved by organisers sprinkling the ground with woodchips to soak up the water.

It looks like ticket holders for this year’s Glastonbury Festival will have to brave at least some rain when they descend on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset from the end of this month.

More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the music festival from Wednesday, June 26 to Sunday, June 30.

Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA will be headlining the event, where acts like Femi Kuti, Jamie Webster and Rachel Chinouriri are also playing.

Previous years have seen festivalgoers slipping and sliding in the mud as the footfall churns up fields.

The forecast isn’t all bad though, as sunny weather is expected to be mixed with showers or ‘longer spells of rain’.

We may also see higher-than-average temperatures despite the downpour.

That must be taken with a pinch of salt though, as the Met Office’s long-range predictions are known to change as weather systems develop.

For the period from Wednesday, June 19 to Tuesday, July 2, the Met Office said: ‘Signals are weak, as is common for this time of year, regarding prevailing weather patterns during the last couple of weeks of June and into the start of July.

‘As is typical, all areas can be expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times.

According to BBC Weather’s latest prediction, here’s what festival-goers can expect.
