Lidl issues urgent recall of snack over risk of ‘fever and diarrhoea’

Lidl has issued a food recall for a brand of BBQ pork scratchings because of possible salmonella.

The food recall affects Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings sold in 100g packages.

This applies to products with best before dates ranging from August 5, 2025 through to August 12, 2025.

Salmonella can cause some serious health issues.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) explained in a statement: ‘Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.’

Those most at risk from symptoms of salmonella include the elderly, infants, and those with weakened immune systems.

Customers in Lidl have been informed about the recall, with point of sale notices displayed throughout the store.

For people who have already bought the product, you are advised by the FSA not to eat them.

The product should instead be returned to your nearest Lidl store where a full refund will be issued.

Customers do not need to bring the receipt along for this.

A food recall is when potential contamination is identified in a product.

The affected product or products are then withdrawn from shelves and recalled from customers when there is a possible risk to consumer health.

It is the FSA that oversees this.

Other recent food recalls include a breakfast cereal that was pulled from supermarket shelves and issued with a ‘do not eat’ warning over fears it contained insects.

Rude Health’s Chocolate Crunch Granola was urgently recalled, according to the FSA.

An alert, posted on the FSA website, said the cereal may have been ‘infested with insects’.

A Japanese and Korean food brand recalled batches of its sushi ginger over fears it contains pieces of glass.

Kelly Loves, which sells products such as kimchi, noodles and sauces, urged people to return the jars as soon as possible.

The FSA, which issued the recall, said the affected product was sold in ASDA and Waitrose.
