While jailed in Los Angeles on murder-for-hire charges, Chicago rapper Lil Durk released his newest album, “Deep Thoughts,” Friday.
A short documentary showcasing behind-the-scenes highlights of the album’s recording cuts to news footage from his arrest in October on charges that he hired people to target rival rapper Quando Rondo, who was gunned down at a gas station in Los Angeles in 2022.
The documentary shows a phone conversation between Lil Durk, real name Durk Banks, and his management team as they discussed edits to the album while he was incarcerated in Los Angeles.
The 17-track album features collaborations with Future, Lil Baby, Jhené Aiko and Hunxho. It’s his first album since “Nightmares in The Trenches,” was released in 2023.
The 32-year-old rapper is also facing a wrongful death lawsuit in connection with the shooting death of 26-year-old Quando Rondo, real name Tyquian Bowman.
In December, federal prosecutors accused Lil Durk in a separate murder-for-hire scheme to kill a rival gang member on the Far South Side.
That shooting, on Jan. 27, 2022 in Roseland, was allegedly plotted to avenge the death of Lil Durk’s brother, Dontay “D Thang” Banks, who was killed outside a Harvey strip club in June 2021.
