Lockdown lifted at Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie

Police declared a lockdown Tuesday afternoon at Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie.

The mall, at 4905 Old Orchard Center, was placed on a temporary lockdown about 3 p.m. for reports of shots being fired. By 3:44, Skokie police said the calls were unfounded and the lockdown was lifted.

Phong Nguyen, who had just left the mall after an interview at women’s boutique Aritzia, said several police officers were seen outside the Nordstrom store.

Nguyen, 21, said officers were blocking off entrances and not allowing people to go in or leave the mall.

“As I was leaving the store, I saw a mother and her two kids running away, so I immediately sped to my car,” Nguyen told the Sun-Times.
