The Mayor of London is warning people to watch out for scammers ahead of the capital’s popular New Year’s Eve firework display.

Sadiq Khan told Londoners that tickets for the annual display, taking place around South Bank and Victoria Embankment, have already sold out.

Resale tickets are only available on the Ticketmaster website, the mayor said, as he urged people to make sure they don’t waste money on fake tickets.

He also reminded ticketholders to remember their photo ID, and to download their tickets to the Ticketmaster app.

The Metropolitan Police, working alongside the organisers to provide security at the event, have warned that there’ll be no access to anyone without tickets.

Commander Nick John said: ‘London is expected to be exceptionally busy, particularly in the West End and surrounding areas.

‘Regrettably in recent years we have seen an increase in incidents where a minority have tried to illegally force entry into ticketed events, putting everyone’s safety at risk.

‘Anyone trying to gain entry in this way could be arrested and face prosecution.’

Ticketing was only introduced a decade ago to try and reduce queueing and strain on the emergency services. Last year, more than 100,000 tickets were sold, costing £20 per person.

In 2023, City Hall blamed fake tickets for problems including long queues, poor signage, and people not being allowed into viewing areas.

This year, City Hall is monitoring the weather forecast ahead of the sold-out firework display.

The Met Office is currently predicting gusts of wind reaching up to 41mph, with rain continuing past midnight and into the early hours of the morning.

There’s then a yellow weather warning for wind in place across the capital from 7am until midnight on New Year’s Day.
