The London Underground has been thrown into chaos this evening following an incident at Cannon Street.

The Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Piccadilly lines are facing delays or have been part suspended due to the ongoing incident.

The delays on the Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines are due to a person on the track.

Commuters have spotted several ambulances, fire engines and police cars parked outside Cannon Street.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: ‘Officers were called to Cannon Street underground station at around 3.20pm today (20 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

‘Paramedics also attended, and a person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.’

There is no service between Whitechapel and Embankment on the District line, and the Circle line is part suspended between Aldgate and Edgware Road via Embankment.

The Hammersmith & City line is suspended between Liverpool Street and Barking.

Transport for London says valid tickets are being accepted on London buses, as well as C2C, South Western Railway and the DLR for District line passengers who have been disrupted.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 3.21pm today (20 June) to reports of a person under a train at Cannon Street Underground Station.

‘We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

‘We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s air ambulance, which consisted of a doctor and a paramedic in a car.

‘We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.’

And a spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade said: ‘We were called at 3.21pm to an incident at Cannon Street Underground Station.

‘Working alongside emergency service colleagues, firefighters rescued a man and gave him immediate emergency care.

‘Two fire engines from Bethnal Green and Paddington fire station and a fire rescue unit from Euston Fire Station attended the scene.’

Earlier there had been severe delays on the Piccadilly line between Acton Town and Uxbridge/Heathrow Airport due to a signal failure at Acton Town and a faulty train at Hyde Park Corner, but these had cleared up by about 5pm.
