Drivers face long delays on the M25 after a collision involving three lorries near Heathrow Airport.

Part of the motorway is blocked at the Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire border after three HGVs crashed shortly before 11am.

Traffic was held after the smash on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction J17 (Rickmansworth) and J16/M40 and J1A (Uxbridge).

National Highways warned: ‘Emergency services are leading at scene.

‘Delays in excess of 30 minutes on approach.’

The incident is causing congestion reaching two miles and down the A412 to Denham, traffic service Inrix said.

Diversion routes were put in place briefly when the carriageway was closed.

Vehicles waiting at the road block have since been released, but two lanes out of four remain closed for recovery anticlockwise.

Traffic is expected to resume to normal by 3.30pm.

It is not known yet whether any of the lorry drivers were injured.

We approached the ambulance service for a comment.

The incident happened around ten miles north of Heathrow Airport.

The M25 surrounding Greater London is the UK’s busiest motorway, with almost 76 million vehicles each year.

On average, it sees around 200,000 vehicles daily, and certain junctions such as the M40 and M23 area can become clogged up during bank holidays.
