U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), who sits on the House Budget Committee, spoke with Jake Tapper on CNN after the Indiana State Senate rejected President Trump’s redistricting push. Stutzman called the 19-31 vote “a terrible decision.”
[Note: A majority of Republican State Senators — 21 out of 40 — voted against the bill, not “a small group,” as MAGA-aligned Governor Mike Braun suggested.]
Tapper asked Stutzman if he believes, as Heritage Action has suggested on social media, that federal funding for Indiana should be cut as a result of the vote.
Stutzman said “no,” but admitted “it makes our job harder as a delegation.”
The Congressman said of Trump: “Now, he’s gonna look at states like Texas, or Florida, or Ohio, Missouri, North Carolina, states that are moving ahead and are saying, ‘you know what, we’re gonna make sure that the House Republicans have the support that they need, to be sure that we hold the majority.”
Stutzman added that another thing that’s making his job harder is House Democrats like Congressman Al Green (D-TX), who filed impeachment articles against Trump this week. (Green’s latest attempt to impeach Trump, it was his sixth, failed.)
Stutzman warned of future impeachment filings: “That’s what’s going to happen as soon as Democrats take control of the House of Representatives.” He added, Once Hakeem Jeffries is Speaker, there will be even more of that.”
