MAGA Congresswoman Urges CNN To Help With Discharge Petition, “I Have Done Nothing Wrong”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna

MAGA-aligned U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has filed a discharge petition to force a vote to ban stock trading in Congress. As seen below on CNN, Luna says her legislation “is being taken so seriously that I’m hearing that both Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and the Speaker and potential House leadership are sending members home because they don’t want members to sign on to legislation overwhelmingly supported by the American people to ban insider trading.”

Note: The same tactic was allegedly used by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) when he called for an early summer recess to reportedly delay a vote on Rep. Thomas Massie‘s (R-KY) discharge petition regarding the release of the complete Epstein files. (Note: Luna did not sign Massie’s discharge petition.)

On CNN, Luna said: “I think we’re gonna get a win, we’ll get negotiations for sure. I just hope that CNN continues to put pressure on some of my colleagues to get onto that legislation.”

Luna added with the CNN interview: “Let’s get ahead of the spin now: there are rumors on the Hill that Leadership may shut the House down next week and try to blame my discharge petition to ban stock trading, and discharge petitions in general, as a scapegoat.

“Let me be clear, I have done nothing wrong by forcing legislation to the floor that over 87% of Americans support, because leadership WON’T DO IT! If Congress shuts down I am not to blame. It’s the inaction of House Leadership to honor the will of the American people. They love to point fingers but they won’t escape accountability this time.”

Luna is not exaggerating the support for the issue. Prohibiting stock-trading in individual companies by Members of Congress has consistently been a winner with the public, with 86%, Republicans 87%, Democrats 88%, and independents 81% in favor in a 2023 survey by the Program for Public Consultation (PPC) at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.
