Man, 19, arrested after teenage girl ‘sexually assaulted’ in church grounds
The attack is alleged to have happened in the grounds of St Andrew and St Cuthman Church in Steyning, Sussex
A teenage girl has been ‘sexually assaulted’ by a man in the grounds of a church.
The alleged incident happened at St Andrew and St Cuthman Church in Steyning, Sussex, around 9am Thursday.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and kidnapping.
He is currently in custody and the teenage girl is being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Inspector Andrew Ricks said: ‘This is a fast moving investigation and we have been working around the clock to establish the circumstances and to locate and detain the suspect.
‘We understand that members of the public may be alarmed and worried by this incident.
‘We have an enhanced police presence in the area so please speak to one of those officers if you have any concerns.’
