Man, 19, slain in Washington Park neighborhood

Police are seeking a gunman who fired more than 20 times, killing a 19-year-old man Wednesday night in the Washington Park neighborhood.

A motorist whose SUV was shot up during the 9:15 p.m. attack alerted officers who responded to the 700 block of West 93rd Street where they found the 19-year-old, lying unresponsive on a sidewalk, police said.

The unidentified man, who suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen, leg, shoulder and back, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m., police said.

The man, who lived about half of a mile away, was walking east on 93rd when the assailant, wearing all black including a ski mask, came from an alley and confronted him, according to police.

After shooting him from the alley, the assailant then stood over him and fired several more rounds before jumping in a black car and speeding away, police said. More than 20 shell casings were found on the scene.

A 19-year-old Blue Island woman who was a front seat passenger in the SUV was injured when a bullet shattered its window as they drove north along the 8700 block of South Halsted Street.

No arrests have been made.

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
