Man, 50, on fire in Playa del Rey, suffers critical injuries

A 50-year-old man was critically burned Tuesday morning in a fire in Playa del Rey.

The fire was reported at 9:30 a.m. in a parking lot on the 8000 block of West Manchester Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters found the burned patient, who was in critical condition when paramedics took him to a hospital.

The fire was originally thought to have involved an automobile, but the flames only threatened the vehicle.

It turns out it was the man who was on fire, according to the LAFD.

Some roofers spotted the flames, and when the went to investigate found it was a man on fire, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

It was not immediately clear if the vehicle belonged to the patient.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Police also responded to the scene.
