Man, 66, fatally shot at Greater Grand Crossing JJ Fish & Chicken

A man was fatally shot while outside a Greater Grand Crossing JJ Fish & Chicken restaurant early Wednesday, police said.

Ronald K. Jones, 66, was standing in the first block of West 79th Street around 12:30 a.m. when he was approached by a dark car, according to Chicago police. A gunman driving the car pulled a gun and fired shots, striking Jones in the chest and neck.

Jones, of the 7900 block of South Michigan Avenue, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The shooter fled the scene and no one is in custody. Detectives are investigating.
