Man, 79, killed in Near West Side hit-and-run

Police are looking for the motorist who ran away after allegedly causing the death of a 79-year-old man driving another car Tuesday night on the Near West Side.

The hit-and-run crash happened around 8:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago police said.

A witness told responding officers that a black car going south on Western Avenue ran a red light and struck a white car going west on Jackson Boulevard, police said.

The unidentified driver of the white car, a 79-year-old man, suffered trauma to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 62-year-old passenger inside the white car suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to Stroger Hospital where her condition was stabilized, officials said.

The driver of the black car fled on foot, according to authorities.

No one was in custody.
