Man allegedly brandishes handgun near Van Nuys Courthouse and LAPD station

A man who allegedly brandished a handgun outside the Van Nuys Courthouse East was taken into custody Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers went to the 6200 block of Sylmar Avenue about 7:35 a.m. on a report of a man brandishing a handgun at passersby in front of the courthouse, which is adjacent to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys station, according to the LAPD.

The man, described as being in his 30s, was taken into custody, and no one was hurt, police said. Information was not immediately available on the man’s name, or on what charges he could face.
