A man and a woman died in an apparent murder-suicide late Friday night, Dec. 19 in Long Beach, police said.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of Summit Street at around 10:50 p.m., where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body, according to police. Officers rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
About seven minutes later, officers received information about a second shooting in the 1600 block of West 19th Street. There, officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Homicide detectives determined the man and woman were in a romantic relationship and were involved in a domestic violence incident that escalated when the man allegedly shot the woman on Summit Street, police said. Investigators believe the man then fled the area and fatally shot himself on West 19th Street.
Police said there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
The woman was identified as Daisy Uribe, 23, a Long Beach resident. The man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of his family.
