Man ‘carrying a gun’ at Elm Park Underground station arrested during rush hour

A man has been arrested after reportedly being spotted carrying a gun on the London Underground.

The 61-year-old was arrested at Elm Park station in east London just after 7am.

British Transport Police were alerted and the station was closed during the operation.

The man, who was wearing a white top, blue jacket and jeans, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody.

Armed officers were pictured carrying what appeared to be a large firearm at the scene.

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘Officers were called just after 7am today (June 19) to Elm Park Underground station following reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

‘Officers attended, and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody.

‘Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is asked to contact BTP.’
