Man charged in fatal East Garfield Park shooting

A Chicago man has been charged in a fatal East Garfield Park shooting Saturday, Chicago police said.

Jermaine Sutton, 26, faces a charge of first-degree murder and a misdemeanor charge for possession of cannabis, police said.

James Chatman, 57, was in the 3000 block of West Polk Street about 10:13 a.m. when Sutton allegedly shot him, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Chatman suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Sutton is due in court Wednesday.
