Man charged with murder in fatal Aurora parking lot shooting

A man charged with murder in Aurora is accused of leaving the scene of a fight to get a gun and shooting the victim six times, according to court documents.

Marcus Marcelles McCray, 40, faces three felony charges: one count of first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, Adams County court records show.

McCray was arrested on Nov. 22, nearly a month after the fatal shooting in a northwest Aurora parking lot, according to court records.

Aurora officers responded to the shooting in the 1500 block of North Macon Street shortly after 2 p.m. on Oct. 25, according to McCray’s arrest affidavit.

When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Stanley Barge had been shot multiple times, police wrote in the document. Paramedics took Barge to the hospital, where he died less than two hours later.

Spent shell casings and a black handgun were found at the scene, next to clothing, bags and a shopping cart, police said.

The woman who called 911 told Aurora investigators that she was Barge’s friend and that the two of them were loading the man’s belongings into her car when McCray approached them in the parking lot, according to the affidavit.

Both men began to fight, which was captured on video by a security guard working in the area, police said in the affidavit.

After the initial fight, McCray left the area in a car and returned minutes later with a gun, witnesses told police.

The driver told police that he took McCray to a nearby apartment, but denied seeing McCray with a gun while getting in or out of the car.

The woman who called 911 said McCray shot Barge twice after returning to the scene. Barge punched McCray in response, knocking the man to the ground. She said McCray got up and, while chasing Barge around a car, shot the 34-year-old four more times, according to the arrest affidavit.

Barge and McCray fought over the handgun, the woman told police. Barge tried to shoot back, but the gun was out of bullets. The driver told police he only saw Barge holding the gun.

Barge fell to the ground, and McCray hopped back into the car and fled the scene, police said in the affidavit. A warrant was issued for his arrest two days later.

McCray is being held without bail, according to court records. He will next appear in court on Feb. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
