A 31-year-old man has been hospitalized in critical condition after he suffered a gunshot wound to the back early Monday, Chicago police said.
The man was outside in the 5800 block of South Hermitage Avenue when an unknown gunman approached him and opened fire, police said.
The victim was taken to University of Chicago Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of 11 a.m., according to police.
The assailant fled southbound on foot. No other injuries were reported, police said.
Area One detectives are investigating.
