Man dies days after East Garfield Park shooting

A man died days after he was shot while sitting in a vehicle in East Garfield Park on the West Side.

Lonnie Williams, 57, was sitting in a parked vehicle Sept. 10 in the 700 block of South California Avenue when someone shot him around 7:05 p.m., Chicago police said.

Williams was struck in his head and neck and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

He died of his injuries Saturday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Officers recovered a gun at the scene. No arrests were made.
