Man fatally shot by McHenry sheriff’s deputy in unincorporated Crystal Lake

A man was fatally shot by a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

McHenry County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident around 4:25 p.m. in the 300 block of Briarwood Road when they made contact with an armed individual, the McHenry County sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The gunman then barricaded himself in the residence and after unsuccessful attempts to get him out safely, a deputy shot the unidentified person and he was later pronounced dead, officials said.

The Major Investigation Assistance Team and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office were investigating.
