Man shot, killed in West Loop shootout; person of interest in custody

A man was shot and killed in a shootout Saturday in the West Loop, Chicago police said.

A 61-year-old man was involved in a verbal altercation with a 24-year-old man on a pedestrian bridge in the 400 block of South Peoria Street at 6:04 p.m. Saturday when the two exchanged gunfire and the older man was shot in the head, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died.

The 24-year-old was taken in for questioning, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
