OAKLAND — A 50-year-old man was in stable condition Thursday after he was shot multiple times Wednesday evening near downtown, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 2200 block of San Pablo Avenue.
Initial reports were that the man was winning a physical fight he had gotten into with another man when that man pulled a gun and began shooting at him, authorities said.
The 50-year-old man was wounded more than twice in the lower parts of his body. He was transported from the scene by an ambulance to a hospital.
The shooter fled on foot to a nearby truck and drove away before police responded to the scene, authorities said. The truck was found unoccupied later in West Oakland.
Police have not yet said if the two men knew each other or what they were fighting about. A detailed description of the suspect has not been released.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect may call investigators at 510-238-3426.
