SAN JOSE — A man suspected in a deadly downtown shooting in April has been arrested after being located in North Carolina, according to San Jose police.
The shooting was reported at 9:07 p.m. the night of April 26 near North Fourth and East St. John streets, with a 911 caller describing an injured woman. Responding police officers went to the site and found a woman who was not breathing and suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.
She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has since identified her as 51-year-old Sonji Conerly, a San Jose resident.
No shooter was located near the scene, but an ensuing police investigation later identified 61-year-old Myron Barrier, of San Jose, as a suspect.
Police said Barrier was located in Greensboro, North Carolina on May 21, and was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service. He was booked into jail there, and on Friday, SJPD detectives escorted Barrier to San Jose.

Barrier was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail, records show. Police said the circumstances behind the fatal shooting remain under investigation.
The death marked the city’s 12th homicide investigated by San Jose police, a total that has since increased to 17.
