Temperatures soar as several fires smolder across the Bay Area, state
Eastern Fresno County alone recorded more than 1,000 lightning strikes in three hours, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
The map above shows the location of the largest fires that started Monday. Three much larger fires from last week — Sites, Post and Aero — are approaching full containment, CalFire said.
1/ Apache, 673 acres, 15% containment. Evacuations were ordered south of Oroville for a fire that started around 7:30 p.m. Two structures were reported destroyed. See Butte County’s evacuation map for the area of the order.
2/ Amoruso, 502 acres, 80% containment. The fire northwest of Rocklin started around 5 p.m. and exploded to 350 acres in its first half-hour but then was quickly controlled, and there was no further spread after 6 p.m.
3/ 1-2, 215 acres, 0% containment. It started around 5:30 p.m. and as of Tuesday morning had 0% containment.
4/ Bolt, 857 acres, 0% containment. Started around 5:20 p.m. As of Tuesday, Fresno County had issued evacuation warnings but no orders.
5/ Flash, 744 acres, 0% containment. Started around 3 p.m. Evacuation warnings but no orders.
