Dust off your sunglasses. The UK is about to be reunited with something it hasn’t seen in what feels like years – the sun.

The UK weather map from the Met Office is covered in cartoon suns for the next three days.

Today will see some stretches of Wales and the west coast of England covered in cloud with the sun just about peaking through.

But from about 4pm, according to forecasters, the cloud will begin to give way to the sunshine.

Tomorrow will likely play out the same way, the Met Office says. Clouds will be lurking around central England and the east coast in the early hours, but will vanish by 9am.

The only parts of the UK not expected to be basking in the sun are mainly North East Scotland and the Highlands, including Aberdeen, Dundee, and the village of Lairg.

A sliver of the coast of North East England, such as seaside spot Berwick-upon-Tweed, won’t see as much sun.

Emphasis, however, on ‘as much’. The Met Office is predicting sun with a hint of cloud for the region on Saturday, though the cloud will begin to drift west over Yorkshire by 6pm.

Sunday will see similar scenes. More or less all of the UK will have crystal clear blue skies over the entire day.

Stubborn clouds will float above Aberdeen and the wider North East Scotland as well as towns across Perthshire until around 10am.

How hot will it be this weekend?

Temperatures, meanwhile, will reach 20°C and higher today. Possibly beating the highest temperature recorded so far this year – 21.3C at Chertsey, Surrey, and London’s Northolt in March 20.

Over the weekend, some parts of England will be pushing 20°C but it will be cooler.

A waft of cooler air will move southwards out of Scandinavia, backed by easterly winds that will drag the mercury down slightly.

Among the warmest parts of the UK tomorrow will be Southampton and Exeter, possibly hitting 20°C.

London, meanwhile, will be a comparatively freezing 19°C by the afternoon.

Both sides of the Midlands will be 15-16°C on Saturday, while the north, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland will see temperatures around the 15°C mark.

For those eager not to get a tan on Saturday, Aberdeen and Wick are your best bets, the Met Office says. About 9°C will be the best they’ll see.

Sunday won’t be as sweltering (by Spring standards). The Barnstaple, Yeovil and Swansea areas will be hotspots as the weekend draws to a close, reaching 17°C by 4pm.

But most Britons can expect temperatures of around the low to mid-10s on Sunday – other than, once again, the Aberdeen and Wick areas.

Sorry, Scotland.
