CBS 2 sports director Marshall Harris has left the station, and Ryan Baker is returning to that role after moving to morning news, the Sun-Times has learned.
“I’m genuinely grateful for my time at CBS Chicago,” Harris told the Sun-Times. “I worked with great people, and I hope they felt the same way about me. I’m looking forward to what’s next. I have some things in the works. But right now, I’m focused on enjoying the best season to be in Chicago, the summertime.”
Harris arrived in July 2021 from CBS affiliate KOVR in Sacramento, California. He replaced Baker, who had moved to co-host morning news in September 2019. Baker had been the station’s lead sports anchor for more than a decade.
Harris is a native of Huntsville, Alabama, and a Mississippi State graduate. Before KOVR, he was an anchor and reporter for NBC Sports Philadelphia for 10 years, hosting Phillies and 76ers studio shows. He also worked for Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and the Big Ten Network.
Baker grew up south suburban Phoenix. He graduated from Thornridge High School in 1987 and the University of Illinois in 1991. Baker was a student manager for the 1989 Flyin’ Illini basketball team. He was a sports anchor at NBC5 for five years before joining CBS2.
The rookie is being asked to do what the 1985 team did to Chicago: Captivate.
