Mayor Brandon Johnson stopped by the WBEZ studio Tuesday morning for another round of “Ask the Mayor” with Sasha-Ann Simons, now leading her new morning show, “In the Loop.”
Johnson began by discussing President Donald Trump’s recent immigration enforcement, dubbed “Operation Midway Blitz.” The mayor said he’s “going to use every single tool at my disposal to protect every single resident of this city,” including courts, executive orders and protests.
He added there is a lack of transparency from the federal government, which is not working with local law enforcement, and called for an investigation into a fatal shooting by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in suburban Franklin Park.
Johnson also said he’s working with the governor and state general assembly to secure more funding for the CTA because public transportation is needed to “build safe and affordable communities.”
The mayor took calls from Chicagoans from the Austin, Roseland, South Loop, South Shore, East Garfield Park, Bronzeville, Logan Square and North Park neighborhoods.
Stephanie asked the mayor about electric bikes and scooters.
“These electrified vehicles are moving at incredible speeds … we want people to use them, but we want people to use them responsibly,” Johnson said.
The mayor also took calls on Medicaid funding, recycling, parks and affordable housing.
Last month, Johnson answered questions that ranged from the city’s billion-dollar budget gap to Trump’s threat to send the National Guard to Chicago.
